Our client went to her ex-boyfriend's house with one of her friends. According to the ex-boyfriend, our client entered his house without his permission, hit him with a snowmobile helmet, and kicked his roommate's dog as she left the residence. Our client was charged with unlawfully being in a dwelling house, assault with a weapon, and unnecessarily causing pain to an animal.
At trial, defence counsel confronted the ex-boyfriend with text messages, inconsistent statements, and other evidence that showed that he had not been truthful. He eventually admitted that he had lied under oath in his police statement about two issues.
RESULT: After the ex-boyfriend had been cross-examined by defence counsel, the charges were dismissed and our client entered into a peace bond.
