Among lawyers, Jeylan’s story is unique. Jeylan lived in Ankara, Turkey for the early portion of her childhood, before moving to Canada mid-way through elementary school. Often working three to four jobs to support herself and her aspirations, Jeylan persevered through a tumultuous upbringing to graduate with high distinction from the University of Guelph, double majoring in Sociology and Anthropology, before completing her Juris Doctor degree, at the University of Ottawa. Jeylan completed her articles of clerkship under Michael Johnston and was called to the Bar of Ontario in March 2023.
As a lawyer practicing with the distinguished firm of Shore & Johnston, Barristers-at-Law, Jeylan is tenacious and creative in defending her clients. She has a passion for protecting her clients’ human rights and civil liberties from the power of the state, and takes pride in bringing her fresh outlook, analytical mind, and intuition to each case.

Jeylan’s practice is focused exclusively on the defence of criminal and quasi-criminal charges. She has successfully represented clients at the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court, in proceedings from bail, pre-liminary hearings, and pre-trial motions through to trial and sentencing hearings. In addition to Courtroom advocacy, Jeylan has successfully and fiercely negotiated exceptional resolution positions for her clients, when the cards seemed stacked against them.
