MATTHEW B. DAY

Matthew holds an Honours Bachelor of Social Sciences (summa cum laude) and a Juris Doctor (cum laude) from the University of Ottawa. During his legal studies and as an articling student with the Department of Justice’s Legal Excellence Program, Matthew gained a broad and multi-faceted perspective on the criminal justice system. He has worked with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, the Ontario Court of Justice, and the Department of Justice’s Criminal Law Policy Section and War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity Section.

 

Matthew represents people charged with criminal and regulatory offences in Ottawa, including domestic assaults, contempt of court, criminal organization offences, sexual assaults, child pornography, and murder. Matthew has defended clients at all levels of court in Ontario (Court of Justice, Superior Court of Justice, and the Court of Appeal). He is meticulous in his study of the law and exhaustive in his independent investigation of each case. He ensures that his clients and their families understand their rights and options at each stage of the proceedings.

 

He accepts Legal Aid Ontario certificates and is a member of JusticeNet, a nation-wide program that offers legal services at reduced fees for those experiencing financial difficulties. He is also a notary public.
