Possession of Drugs

Our client was on his way to a party with friends when he stopped to purchase marijuana from a friend in a public park area. As he drove away, a police officer who observed the transaction stopped and searched our client’s vehicle, finding marijuana and cocaine.

Our client was charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana. Although he was a young first-time offender, the prosecution wanted our client to receive a jail sentence. After proving that our client had maintained part-time employment and had begun attending college, defence counsel persuaded the prosecution to agree to a twelve-month conditional discharge with community service.

RESULT: Our client received a conditional discharge, which does not result in a permanent criminal record.
